Rampart Reservoir with Pikes Peak in the distance
Outdoor recreation

Here, the outdoors is part of the address.

Rampart Reservoir shoreline and Pikes Peak
Rampart Reservoir

An 11.5-mile shoreline route north of town.

The Forest Service’s Rampart Reservoir Trail #700 follows the shoreline for roughly 11.5 miles. It is nonmotorized and supports hiking and mountain biking, with winter snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the broader recreation area.

Vehicle access includes a day-use fee, and mountain roads are seasonal—an important distinction for people imagining year-round use.

Mueller State Park

More than 5,000 acres just down Highway 67.

Mueller State Park near Divide covers 5,117 acres and reports 44.3 miles of trails. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing make it a four-season resource rather than a summer-only attraction.

The park’s landscape moves through spring-fed meadows, conifer and aspen forest, rocky outcrops and views associated with the Pikes Peak granite formation.

The local advantage

You do not have to save the outdoors for Saturday.

A Woodland Park resident can fit trail time, dog-park time, youth sports or a walk around town into an ordinary day. That is a different lifestyle proposition than living in Colorado Springs and driving west whenever you want mountain access.
